Feeling Really Pleased With Myself

Wow - I can't believe it. Haven't won anything in the way of craft for about 15 years when I was spinning & knitting. However I won a card challenge with Blumars in September for the weekend workshop & again for the October one too. Have never really made cards before so was really thrilled. Having so much fun learning all these new things. It's wonderful to be able to participate in something without having to go anywhere.

My self-esteem had taken a battering the past couple of years as not being able to work or do a lot around the house & having to give up a lot of craft & my horses I had been feeling useless but this group & my graphics have given me something to really look forward to.

Our Trip To The Tip

At the moment I am recovering from our holiday to North Queensland. We had a wonderful time but when we arrived home on the 19th October I vowed that I was NEVER going away again. However 10 days on things are now starting to settle a bit and I am slowly getting back into my "normal" routine.

As sitting for any length of time is difficult we decided to catch the Sunlander up to Tully where we were met by hubby's sister & brother-in-law. Having a sleeper made the trip easier plus we took any opportunity to get off at a station & stretch our legs.

A couple of nights to recoup at Mission Beach (which would have to be one of the prettiest areas on the eastern coastline of Australia) & we were ready for our trip by car to Cairns.

From Carins it was a journey to The Cape on the MV Trinity which is a cargo ship that travels the route from Cairns to Seisia via Lockhart River, Horn Island, Thursday Island, Bamaga & return. We had 27 passengers on our trip north & 31 coming home.

It was a "no frills" trip as it is a working cargo ship however the accommodation was clean, beds comfortable, showers hot, & excellent buffet style meals.

We had an option at Horn & Thursday Islands to do bus tours however I elected not to but had a stroll around Thursday Island instead. The majority of the passengers did do both tours.

Early hours the next morning we arrived at Seisia Port where we met 4WD for a very rough 40k trip over corrugated roads to the tip, followed by a fairly strenuous scramble over the rocks till we were standing at the northern most part of mainland Australia. Well worth the trip as the views are spectacular. Then it was the 40k trip back with a break at Lockhart River for morning tea. I had a massive flare-up the next day but I wasn't going to miss out on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the tip having travelled so far.








After arrival back in Cairns it was back to Bingil Bay (North Mission Beach) for a few days then
to Dunk Island for two nights before boarding the Sunlander for home.



We were fortunate to have perfect weather the entire trip & it is a journey I would recommend. For those with 4WD's they can travel one way by ship with their vehicle stored in the hold then unload at Seisia for the drive home.
